LOGmyGIG — Privacy Policy
1. Introduction and Your Consent
myGIGlife INC. ("Company," "we," "us," or "our") publishes LOGmyGIG (the "App"), a record-keeping app for independent contractors, gig workers, and other self-employed people. This Privacy Policy explains what information the App does and does not collect, how the information it handles is used and stored, which third parties are involved, and your rights with respect to that information.
In short: the records you keep in the App (earnings, expenses, mileage, work sessions, receipts, and tax documents) stay on your device in an encrypted database. There is no LOGmyGIG account, and we have no server that receives your records. Information leaves your device only when you choose to send it, with one exception on Android described in Section 7.
By downloading, installing, or using the App, you consent to the practices described in this Privacy Policy and agree to its terms. This Privacy Policy forms part of the App's Terms of Use. If you do not agree with this Privacy Policy, please do not use the App.
2. Definitions
In this Privacy Policy:
"Personal information" (called "personal data" in some laws) means information that identifies, relates to, or could reasonably be linked with a particular person, directly or indirectly, such as a name, an email address, precise location, or an IP address.
"Records" means everything you enter into or capture with the App, as listed in Section 4.
"Device" means the phone on which you use the App.
"App Store" means the Google Play Store or the Apple App Store.
"Third-party service" means a service that is not operated by us, such as Google Play, Google ML Kit, the share sheet and apps on your device, and the cloud storage providers described below.
3. Information We Collect
We do not collect your records or other personal information through the App. The App is designed to work on your device. It has no user accounts, sign-up, or logins of its own, and no servers of its own. Your name and business details, if you enter them, are stored only on your device, to appear on reports and documents you create.
We do not collect, log, or monitor device identifiers, advertising identifiers, contacts, photos, usage analytics, crash reports, or any other data from your device or about you. The App does not use cookies, tracking pixels, or similar tracking technologies, shows no advertising, and contains no analytics, advertising, attribution, or crash-reporting software. The App does not connect to your bank accounts and does not collect data from gig platforms' websites or apps.
Sections 4 through 8 describe what the App keeps on your device and what it does there. Sections 9 through 11 describe the only ways information leaves your device. Section 12 describes what we receive if you choose to email us.
4. Information Stored on Your Device
The App stores the following on your device:
- profile and setup: your name, business description, gig platforms, vehicles, and preferences;
- work records: work sessions, working and personal time, odometer readings, and miles;
- money records: earnings, expenses, categories, estimated tax payments you record, tax settings (such as filing status, W-2 wages, and state or local rates you enter), and notes;
- documents: receipt photos, 1099 forms, platform statements, and the PDFs, reports, income statements, and tax packages you create; and
- security settings: whether app lock is on, and a salted hash of your PIN (never the PIN itself).
Your records are kept in a database encrypted with a random 256-bit key. The key is kept in your device's secure keystore (Android Keystore or iOS Keychain), is available only while your device is unlocked, and cannot be moved to another device. The App excludes its data from Android's system backup and device-to-device transfer; you make backups yourself, as described in Section 9.
Your records are not sent to us, and we have no access to them, no ability to retrieve them, and no copy of them. If you lose your device or delete the App without a backup, we cannot restore your records.
5. Device Permissions
The App asks for a permission only when you use the feature that needs it, and explains why first. You can refuse any permission, or turn it off later in your device's settings, and the rest of the App keeps working.
- Camera: to photograph or scan receipts and tax forms, requested when you first scan.
- Photos: none needed. When you choose an existing image, your device's picker opens and the App receives only the image you pick.
- Location (only while the App is in use): for optional GPS mileage, as described in Section 6.
- Face ID or fingerprint: for optional app lock. Your device performs the check; the App learns only whether it succeeded and never receives your biometric data.
- Notifications: for optional tax due-date reminders, as described in Section 8.
The App does not request background location, microphone, contacts, or access to your device's shared storage.
6. Location and GPS Mileage
GPS mileage is off by default. If you turn it on, the App reads your device's location only while a work session that uses GPS is running and the App is open, to add up the distance driven. It stores only the total miles, on your device; it does not store your route or any locations. The App never reads your location in the background, and it never sends your location to us or to anyone else. Odometer readings remain your primary mileage record.
You can turn GPS mileage off in the App's Privacy Center, or turn off location access in your device's settings, at any time.
7. Reading Receipts, Documents, and Statements on Your Device
When you scan or add a receipt or tax form, its text is read on your device, by Apple's Vision framework on iPhone and by Google's ML Kit on Android. When you import a PDF statement from a gig platform, the App reads the PDF's text on your device. The App suggests values from that text, and you review and confirm them. Your images, PDFs, and their text are not sent to us or to anyone else.
Saved receipt copies are re-encoded, which removes location and camera metadata from the image. If you turn on "Keep original photos too," the originals are stored on your device exactly as captured and may contain that metadata.
Android only. Google's ML Kit, which reads and scans documents on Android, sends Google limited diagnostic information when it is used: device information (such as manufacturer, model, and operating system version), the App's package name and version, performance measures (such as how long reading took), the image format and settings used, and a per-installation identifier that Google states is not used to identify you or your device. Google states that it uses this information for diagnostics and usage analytics, encrypts it in transit, and does not share it with third parties. It never includes your images, your documents, or their text, and it is not sent to us. The App has no setting that turns this off; if you prefer, you can enter receipts and forms by hand without scanning. See Google's ML Kit data disclosure.
8. Tax Due-Date Reminders
If you turn on reminders for a tax year, the App schedules notifications on your device for about a week before each federal estimated-tax due date. They are created and delivered by your device; nothing is sent to us or to a notification server. A reminder states only the due date, never an amount, because it may appear on your lock screen. You can turn reminders off in the App or in your device's settings.
9. Information That Leaves Your Device Only When You Choose
The App sends information off your device only when you take an action to send it:
- Sharing or exporting a file (such as a report, PDF, spreadsheet, tax package, income statement, or backup file): the file you chose goes to the app, person, or place you pick in your device's share sheet.
- Saving to Files or iCloud Drive: the file you chose goes to your device's Files app or your own iCloud account.
- Opening an official source: tapping a link to a tax agency's published source (for example, on irs.gov) opens that page in your browser, which is governed by that website's own policies.
Backup files you create contain your records (not receipt and document images) and are saved wherever you choose. Once you send a file somewhere, what happens to it is governed by the recipient or service you chose, and we have no access to it.
10. Optional Cloud Storage (Not Yet Available)
The App is being prepared to let you store your documents in your own Google Drive, Dropbox, or OneDrive account. This feature is not yet available in the App. If and when it is offered, it will work as follows, and it will be used only if you turn it on.
You will sign in with the provider in your device's browser. The App will ask for the narrowest access each provider offers: on Google Drive, only files the App creates; on Dropbox and OneDrive, only the App's own folder. Your sign-in tokens will be kept only in your device's secure keystore and erased when you disconnect or delete your data. Your stored documents (receipts, forms, statements, and PDFs and packages you create) will be uploaded directly from your device to a LOGmyGIG folder in your account; they will not pass through us, and we will not receive them. Files in your cloud account are governed by that provider's privacy policy.
Google user data. LOGmyGIG's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. LOGmyGIG will use Google Drive access only to save and update the files you store with LOGmyGIG in your own Drive. We will not read your other Drive files, receive your files ourselves, use them for advertising, sell them, or allow humans to read them.
11. App Store Purchases and Subscriptions
LOGmyGIG is free to download. Adding new records requires a subscription sold through your App Store (currently Google Play), with a free trial for new subscribers. Your purchase is processed entirely by that App Store using the Google or Apple account you use with it.
To know whether your subscription is active, the App asks the App Store's billing service on your device. The App Store tells the App which subscription is active and when it renews or ends, and the App keeps that status, and the date it was last confirmed, on your device so it can keep working when you are offline. We do not run a server that receives your purchase records, and this check never sends your records anywhere.
We do not collect, request, store, or have access to your Google account, Apple ID, payment card details, billing address, or any other personal account information; that information is held and governed by Google or Apple, as applicable. Google or Apple may give us summary sales and subscription reports as the seller, under their own privacy policies and terms. We encourage you to review the privacy policy of the App Store you use.
12. Emails You Choose to Send Us
The App does not send us messages. If you email us, we receive what the email contains, such as your name, email address, and message, and anything you choose to attach. Please do not send us your records, tax documents, or tax identification numbers.
We use an email only to read and answer it, to fix problems it reports, and to improve the App, and we keep it only as long as needed for those purposes or as required by law. We do not add you to any mailing list. You can ask us to delete an email you have sent us, as described in Section 23.
13. No Sale, Rental, Lease, or Sharing of Information
We do not sell, rent, lease, trade, or otherwise share or disclose personal information to any third party for any purpose, including marketing, advertising, or cross-context behavioral advertising. Because we do not receive your records, there is no such information in our possession to sell or share.
14. Data Retention and Deletion
We keep none of your records, because none reach us. Emails you choose to send us are kept only as described in Section 12.
Records stay on your device until you delete them. When you delete a record, the App keeps it hidden in its database so that an import can be undone; "Delete all LOGmyGIG data on this phone" removes everything.
"Delete all LOGmyGIG data on this phone" (in the App's Privacy Center) permanently erases every record, stored receipt and document, cache, your PIN, any cloud sign-in tokens, the database, and its encryption key from your device. It does not affect files you exported or saved elsewhere; delete those where you saved them. Uninstalling the App removes its database and stored files from your device. On iPhone, iOS may keep the App's keychain entries (the database key, your PIN hash, and any cloud sign-in tokens) after the App is removed, so use "Delete all LOGmyGIG data on this phone" first if you want those removed too.
Third-party services keep what they receive under their own policies.
15. Sale of Business and Affiliates
If the Company, the App, or substantially all of the Company's assets are sold, merged, or otherwise transferred, including in a bankruptcy, reorganization, or similar proceeding, or if we share the App's operation with a company that controls, is controlled by, or is under common control with the Company (an "affiliate"), any information we hold at that time may be transferred as part of that transaction, and this Privacy Policy will continue to apply to it unless you are notified otherwise and, where the law requires, asked for your consent. Today we hold no personal information from the App, apart from any emails you have chosen to send us.
16. Third-Party Services and Links
The App works with these third-party services, each of which is operated independently of us and governed by its own terms and privacy policy, not by this Privacy Policy:
- Google ML Kit on Android and Apple's Vision framework on iPhone, which read document text on your device (Section 7);
- your device's share sheet, Files app, and the apps and services you choose to send files to (Section 9);
- tax agency websites that open in your browser when you tap an official source (Section 9);
- Google Drive, Dropbox, and OneDrive, if cloud storage is offered and you turn it on (Section 10); and
- the App Store you obtained the App from (Section 11).
When you leave the App for another app or website, this Privacy Policy no longer applies. We are not responsible for the content or privacy practices of third-party services, and we encourage you to read their policies.
17. Children's Privacy
The App is intended for adults who do independent or self-employed work. It is not directed to children under the age of 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. Because we do not receive users' records, this is true for users of every age. If you are a parent or guardian and believe that a child under 13 has sent us personal information, for example by email, please contact us as described in Section 26 and we will delete it.
18. Data Security
Because your records are not sent to us, there is no central database of your records for us to secure or that could be compromised in a data breach on our end. On your device, the App protects your records with an encrypted database whose key is held in your device's secure keystore, optional app lock (Face ID or fingerprint, and/or a 4–8 digit PIN, with an increasing lockout after wrong attempts), and automatic locking after the App has been in the background for a period you choose. The App does not write your financial figures, document text, tax identification numbers, locations, or sign-in tokens to its logs, and exported spreadsheets are protected against formula injection. We take reasonable measures to protect emails you send us.
Your records are also protected by the security of your own device and operating system, and it is your responsibility to secure your device, for example with a passcode and current software updates. Files you export are no longer encrypted by the App; protect them wherever you save them. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure.
19. International Use
The App is offered from the United States and is designed for U.S. taxpayers. If you use the App from outside the United States, your records are not collected, processed, or transferred by us, regardless of your location. If you email us from outside the United States, your email is received and handled in the United States.
20. Your Rights in the EEA, UK, and Switzerland (GDPR)
If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland, data protection laws such as the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) give you rights over personal data that a company holds about you: to access it and receive a copy, to have it corrected, to have it deleted, to restrict or object to its use, to receive it in a portable format, and to withdraw any consent you gave. You also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority.
Because the App does not send us your records, we hold nothing from your use of the App that we could give you, correct, delete, restrict, or transfer. The only personal data we may hold about you is an email you chose to send us, which we use to answer you on the basis of our legitimate interest in responding to messages, and to which all of these rights apply.
Your records are under your control: in the App you can view, correct, export, and delete them at any time. You can withdraw permission for location, camera, biometrics, or notifications at any time in your device's settings.
21. Your California Privacy Rights (CCPA and CalOPPA)
If you are a California resident, the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) gives you the right to know what personal information a business collects about you, its sources and purposes, and with whom it is shared; to access, correct, and delete it; to opt out of its sale or sharing; to limit the use of sensitive personal information; and not to be discriminated against for exercising these rights.
In the past 12 months we have not collected personal information through the App. The only personal information we may have received is what you chose to include in an email to us (identifiers such as your name and email address, and the contents of your message), used only to answer you, as described in Section 12. We do not sell or share personal information, and have not done so, so there is nothing to opt out of. We do not use or disclose sensitive personal information for any purpose that would give you a right to limit it. We will not discriminate against you for exercising any of these rights.
Under the California Online Privacy Protection Act (CalOPPA), we disclose that the App does not track you over time or across third-party websites or services, and therefore does not respond differently to "Do Not Track" browser signals. We will post any changes to this Privacy Policy on this page, as described in Section 24.
22. Other U.S. State Privacy Rights
Residents of other states, such as Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia, and others with comprehensive privacy laws, may have rights similar to those in Section 21, including rights to access, correct, delete, and obtain a copy of their personal data and to opt out of its sale, targeted advertising, or profiling. We do not sell personal data, use it for targeted advertising, or profile you, and the only personal data we may hold is an email you chose to send us. You may exercise your rights, and appeal any decision we make about a request, as described in Section 23.
23. How to Exercise Your Rights
To exercise any of the rights described in Sections 20 through 22, or to ask any question about your personal information, contact us as described in Section 26. We may ask for information needed to confirm that a request about an email is from the person who sent it. You may use an authorized agent where the law allows. We will respond within one month of receiving your request, or sooner if the law requires. To delete the records the App keeps on your device, you do not need to contact us: use "Delete all LOGmyGIG data on this phone" or uninstall the App, as described in Section 14. For information held by Google or Apple, such as purchases or ML Kit diagnostics, contact them directly; we are happy to help you find the right place.
24. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time, for example to reflect changes in the App's functionality (such as cloud storage or a subscription becoming available) or for legal or regulatory reasons. If we do, we will update the "Effective date" above and post the revised policy at this page's address, and describe the change in the App's release notes. Before a change that would send information off your device that is not sent today takes effect, we will ask for your permission in the App. Your continued use of the App after a revised Privacy Policy becomes effective constitutes your acceptance of it. If you do not agree to a revised Privacy Policy, stop using the App and uninstall it.
25. Governing Law
This Privacy Policy is governed by the laws of the State of Delaware, United States of America, without regard to its conflict-of-laws principles, and, where applicable, the federal laws of the United States. Disputes are resolved as described in the Terms of Use. This does not take away any rights you have under the privacy laws of the place where you live.
